Mysuru's big Vijayadashami procession - which starts at the Amba Vilas palace and winds its way through the city - was held on Tuesday. Before the procession began, people in their thousands lined the streets of Mysuru in anticipation of the Jamboo Savari or the elephant procession - a tradition that goes back centuries.

Thousands of people on Saturday thronged the cultural capital of Karnataka to witness the grand finale of the Dusshera festival in Mysore, as the famous victory procession of caparisoned elephants (jamboo savari) passed through main roads from the illuminated royal palace to Bannimantap ground across the city, amid tight security.

Preparations for Jamboo Savari denoting the grand finale of the 10-day-long Dasara festivities is in full swing in Mysore. The Jamboo Savari, featuring the procession of the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari in a golden howdah (carriage) positioned atop caparisoned elephants, will start at 2.10 pm from the precincts of the Amba Vilas palace on Sunday....
