Jamia Masjid Protests

The mosque is located at Nowhatta in downtown Srinagar, it used to be a site of stone-pelting and clashes between police and protesters. The protests and stone-pelting incidents have effectively stopped in the last three years.

Around 40 people have been arrested for protesting inside Srinagar's Jamia Masjid last week. Fifteenof them will be charged under the Public Safety Act or PSA, police said. A person can be jailed for six months, under the stringent law, or extended period without a trial.

Hundreds of people have gathered outside the Jama Masjid in the old quarter of Delhi to protest against citizenship law. Delhi Police has made elaborate arrangements to check and deal with any untoward situation in the national capital and prohibitory orders have been imposed in several sensitive areas of the city.

At least 50 persons were today injured during clashes between protestors and security forces in Srinagar, police said. The clashes broke out after the Friday prayers near Jamia Masjid in the Nowhatta area of the city, a police official said.
