The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2023, which allows nomination of two members from Kashmiri migrants and one member from displaced persons from PoK, came into force on Tuesday.

The government on Wednesday listed 18 bills, including two to extend provisions of the women's reservation act to Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry and three to replace the criminal laws, during the Winter Session of Parliament beginning next week.

Among those included in the list are refugees from West Pakistan who had settled in Jammu, Gorkhas and members from the Jat community

The amendment bill of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004 was passed in the Upper House following a speech by Home Minister Amit Shah where he spoke of "Insaniyat, Jamhooriyat, Kashmiriyat". 

Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Amendment Bill will be the first legislative business of the BJP president in parliament after his election to the lower house and cabinet appointment following the party's decisive win in national polls last month.

The Jammu and Kashmir assembly today passed a resolution seeking to implement the Goods and Services Tax or GST in the state. The resolution was passed amid strong reservations by the opposition that extending GST regime will undermine the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The central GST Act doesn't apply to the state.
