In a fillip to the Chhattisgarh government's campaign for the rehabilitation of Maoists, 17 members of the Jan Militia, including some top Maoist leaders of Odisha's Niyamgiri area, surrendered today in Jagdalpur in Bastar district, a senior police officer said.

A suicide bomber killed an Afghan militia commander and at least 10 others in the eastern province of Kunar near the border with Pakistan on Saturday, officials said.

Two Maoists, including a hardcore Jan Militia commander who was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, were today gunned down and another injured in two separate gun-battles in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bastar division.
