Japan Flood Rescue Operations

Around 18,000 volunteers from all across Japan today participated in the ongoing cleanup and reconstruction efforts in western parts of the country devastated by heavy rains which left more than 200 dead and dozens of people missing.

The number of dead in days of heavy rain that devastated parts of Japan with floods and landslides has risen to at least 141, the top government spokesman said on Tuesday.

Yoshihide Suga said 87 people had been confirmed dead from the severe floods, with another 13 found with no vital signs, adding that more than a dozen people were still missing.
