The Congress on Monday mocked the Bharatiya Janata Party as "Bharatiya Jinnah Party" two days after its party's Ratlam Jhabua Lok Sabha candidate Guman Singh Damor stirred a controversy saying that the Partition could have been avoided if Jawaharlal Nehru had allowed Muhammad Ali Jinnah to be the first Prime Minister.

The by-election results today are a mixed bag for the BJP. The party made its electoral debut in the Manipur assembly, winning both by-polls in the north eastern state but lost the Jhabua-Ratlam Lok Sabha seat to the Congress in Madhya Pradesh. Results have been declared for two Lok Sabha seats and five assembly seats across four states.

Madhya Pradesh has received a total of 656.7 mm rainfall so far in the ongoing monsoon season, which is the highest in the decade, according to Met office sources.
