Hours after a case of molestation was reported on the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, its security department on Wednesday announced that entry of outside vehicles will be restricted from 10 pm to 6 am.

Talks are being held to persuade students to take back the call for the screening on their own, sources said, adding that there will be heavy police deployment for security reasons and action will be taken if students gather for the screening.

After a scuffle broke out between two groups of students on the campus, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) authorities have instructed the security branch to take necessary steps and submit a detailed report on the incident.

Half a dozen students have reportedly been injured during clashes between members of the student organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, or ABVP, and the campus security guards.

Jail authorities on Wednesday submitted before a Delhi court the CCTV footage of June 30, when former JNU student Sharjeel Imam was allegedly assaulted and called a terrorist during a security check inside the Tihar jail premises.

They said a PCR call regarding a female student being molested inside JNU was received at the Vasant Kunj North Police Station at around 12.45 am on Tuesday.

Former JNU student leader Umar Khalid did not take the personal security officers, provided to him following an attempted firing at him in 2018, to his "conspiratorial meetings", police has alleged in a supplementary charge sheet while explaining his role in the northeast Delhi riots.
