The Supreme Court today rejected a public interest litigation or PIL seeking regulation of non-religious education being imparted at madrasas, maktabahs and gurukuls across the country. A bench comprising Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta declined to take the plea, but allowed the petitioners to approach the respective high courts.

A bench of justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta was apprised by Additional Solicitor General A N S Nadkarni that there was no objection on the suggestion made in this regard by an advocate, who is assisting the court as an amicus curiae in the air pollution matter.
