Strongly protesting the Election Commission of India's decision to stop disbursement of funds to farmers under Odisha government's Kalia scheme, Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik Tuesday went to office of the Chief Electoral Officer to lodge a complaint.

Alleging that BJP has been trying to pressurise the Election Commission, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday approached the State Commission urging it not to stop the assistance to farmers under the Odisha government's KALIA scheme.

The Odisha government on Thursday shed its initial hesitation to implement the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PMKSN) - a central scheme aimed at providing income support to small and marginal farmers - and agreed to extend all possible assistance for implementing it in the state, news agency PTI has reported.
