Man arrested for taking photos of Kalpakkam reactor in Tamil Nadu

A contract labourer at the Madras Atomic Power station at Kalpakkam in Kancheepuram Tamil Nadu has been arrested after some pen drives and a mobile phone that had over 400 photos of the BHAVINI Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor were seized from him, police said on Thursday.

Cyclone Thane which is due to hit the coast of Tamil Nadu on Friday morning has raised fears about the safety of nuclear plants in the state. Although the Kudankulam nuclear plant is at a safe distance from cyclone landfall, authorities have concerns about the safety of the Kalpakkam nuclear facilities.

A scientific officer who was missing from the Kalpakkam Atomic Power Station has been located. Near Chennai. In jail.Thirty-eight-year-old VV Radhakrishnan was last seen at work a week ago on Friday.
