Amid fresh COVID-19 concerns, the Karnataka government on Saturday instructed officials to initiate surveillance measures for those arriving from Japan and Thailand, including RT-PCR tests for symptomatic cases at the airport testing laboratory.

Days after neighbouring Karnataka imposed travel restrictions on persons from the state in view of the COVID situation, Kerala ChiefMinister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said the fresh curbswere against the directive of the Centre in this regard.

People travelling abroad for education and employment have been included in the vaccine priority list in Karnataka, as many countries have made full inoculations against the coronavirus mandatory for entry.

An Australian court in Sydney on Monday dismissed the legal challenge filed by a 73-year old citizen stranded in Bengaluru, Karnataka, against the government's decision to temporarily ban the return of its citizens from COVID-19 stricken India.

Businesses in Tamil Nadu can now travel to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry without having to quarantine themselves upon their return to the state, provided they come back within 48 hours, even as coronavirus cases continue to surge in the state and across the country.

Karnataka has issued a fresh set of guidelines and quarantine rules for people travelling to the state from other states and from outside the country. The state government has also revised the coronavirus testing protocols after the last update on May 20.

Karnataka on Sunday announced a number of relaxations in the quarantine rules for the people travelling to the state.

Karnataka has requested the Civil Aviation Ministry to reduce the number of incoming flights from five states - Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan - to contain the spiralling coronavirus infection in the state.

Three of the six people who travelled from Mumbai with the body of a 56-year-old man have tested coronavirus positive in Karnataka's Mandya district.
