Karnataka Doctors Strike

Hours after launching a 24-hour shutdown of outpatient services, doctors in Karnataka on Friday called off the protest over the assault of a colleague as members of a pro-Kannada outfit allegedly involved in the recent incident surrendered before the police.

Thousands of out-patient facilities were affected across Karnataka on Tuesday due to a private doctors' strike against a new medical bill.

Private doctors across Karnataka were back to work on Saturday and began treating out-patients after they called off their five-day strike on Friday. The state had agreed to the demands of the doctors at a two-hour long meeting between the state government and representatives of the private doctors.

Private doctors in Karnataka have called off their protests against amendments in the KPME or Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Bill following a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the north Karnataka town of Belagavi where the legislature session is on.

The Private Hospitals and nursing homes Association (PHANA) has called off the indefnite strike which had seen OPD services being affected severely in Bengaluru. The doctors were protesting against the proposed amendments to the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act.

Outpatient services in private hospitals and nursing homes in the capital city of Karnataka are likely to be hit from tomorrow, as doctors announce an indefinite stir against proposed amendments to an Act which make hospitals accountable for medical negligence.

About 2,600 doctors including specialists, working in state-run hospitals across Karnataka, resumed duty on Tuesday a day after they resigned in protest over the state government's failure to fulfill their demands, including of wage disparity.

The state-wide strike by 65,000 government doctors and paramedical staff in Karnataka entered the seventh day on Sunday, affecting hospital services across the state.

Doctors went on a day-long strike in Karnataka on Monday as part of the nationwide protest called by the Indian Medical Association to protest certain reforms initiated by the Central Government in the medical field.

Doctors and paramedical staff of various organisations, including Indian Medical Association and Indian Integrated Medical Association, took out a protest march in Mysore today in protest against imposition of Trade License fee for clinics by the Mysore City Corporation.
