The Supreme Court today refused to stall the release of Rajinikanth-starrer 'Kaala' which is scheduled to hit theatres tomorrow. The Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce had called for a ban on the film in the state following the actor-politician's remarks on the release of Cauvery waters.

'Kaala' producer K Dhanush and his wife Aishwarya have filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking directions to the state government and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) for smooth release of the film.

Following Rajinikanth's comments on the Cauvery row in which he asked Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy to release to Tamil Nadu its share of Cauvery water, as mandated by the Supreme Court, the Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce or KFCC on Tuesday decided not to allow screening of his movie'Kaala', due for release on June 7.

D R Jairaj, Vice-President of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, said, "Illegally they may screen it, but not legally. It is not legalised because there is a lot of procedure to be followed to obtain a licence to screen a film in a premises"
