Thirteen students have tested positive for coronavirus at a university campus in Jammu and Kashmir's Katra, forcing the district management to order the closure of the university campus.

The government wrote to five states - Odisha, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Mizoram, and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir - to express concern over a rapid increase in daily new Covid cases and underline the danger posed by Omicron.

Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday said all those above 18 years of age across its 20 districts have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination.

Jammu and Kashmir is on track to reach the milestone of 100 per cent first-dose coverage of the coronavirus vaccination this week. Of 20 districts, four have already achieved the target.

After remaining closed for months to prevent the spread of coronavirus, various schools reopened on Monday for students of Classes 10 and 12 across Jammu in accordance with the fresh government guidelines, officials said.
