Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed grief over the loss of lives in the Jammu bus accident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand for people who sustained injuries.

Ten people died after an overcrowded bus carrying pilgrims to the Vaishno Devi shrine skidded off a bridge and fell into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.

A Vaishno Devi-bound pilgrim was allegedly killed by her husband who throttled her and then threw the body off a cliff to make it look like an accident in Katra town of Reasi district, police said on Tuesday. The couple got married on March 10.

At least five people were killed and 15 others injured in a bus accident this evening near Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, in Jammu and Kashmir.

Thirty-two Vaishnodevi pilgrims, on their way back to Delhi, were injured when a bus carrying them overturned at Katra in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir today. The bus skidded off the road and overturned at Moori in the Katra belt injuring 32 pilgrims, two of them seriously, police said.
