Ram Navami is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Ram to King Dasharath and Queen Kausalya in Ayodhya in Treta Yuga.

Last week, Kausalya, 23, learnt with shock and bewilderment about the judgement of the Madras High Court on June 22, which so gravely undermined her courageous struggle for justice for her murdered husband Shankar. They were victims of what is incorrectly termed an "honour killing".

Widowed a year ago on the orders of her father, S Kausalya today welcomed the verdict of a Tamil Nadu court that sentenced him to death. V Sankar, the 23-year-old engineering student Kausalya married against the wishes of her family in July 2015, was killed barely eight months later by men hired by her father.
