A high-powered Kerala delegation led by Tourism Minister AP Anilkumar is in the Silicon Valley to attract tourists and entrepreneurs to the state and bring in the much needed foreign direct investment.

An innovative car gadget and road safety platform 'Raksha SafeDrive', developed by a startup incubated at the state-run Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), has raised USD 5,048 in two weeks through online crowd funding platform Kickstarter.

Observing that creating startups is a "high risk-high reward job", Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said the technology entrepreneurship would be made a key part of engineering education in the state.

Marking its foray into the titanium sector, state-owned steel major SAIL today signed an agreement with Kerala Metal and Minerals Ltd and Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation to set up a joint venture for producing titanium sponge and metals.

Some 51 countries have confirmed their participation in the "Emerging Kerala 2012" investment meet to be held here Sep 12-14, officials said. Alkesh Kumar Sharma, managing director of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), said the response has been tremendous.

Kerala, which is aggressively campaigning to lure investments, will hold a road show in Bangalore on July 20 with a focus on IT sector investments as part of its upcoming 'Emerging Kerala-2012 Global Connect' slated for September.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate 'Emerging Kerala 2012', the flagship global connect programme of the state government to be held at Kochi from Sep 12 to 14, officials on Monday said. The event will be attended by many national and international luminaries.
