Kerala Tax Raid

The Income Tax Department has detected unaccounted income of Rs 200 crore after it recently raided two Kerala-based quarry operators, the Central Board of Direct Taxes said on Monday.

A row has erupted in Kerala over the recent seizure of unaccounted money from a house in Kochi by Income Tax sleuths in the alleged presence of a Congress MLA during a raid following which the ruling Left has demanded the legislator's resignation.

The Income Tax department today launched searches at about 80 locations in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala in connection with a tax evasion case.

Income Tax authorities today launched simultaneous searches at nine premises of a leading firm running a chain of retail textile showrooms in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala to probe suspected tax evasion.

Raids at the home and offices of Malayalam actor Dileep on Saturday revealed that he has evaded payment of service tax, said central excise and service tax officials.
