The Supreme Court today freed Pakistani microbiologist Dr Mohammad Khalil Chisti in connection with a murder case. The court said Dr Chishty has already spent one year and four months in prison and no further custody is required.

The Supreme Court order for Dr Chishty's bail has reached Ajmer, but will first have to be presented in the Ajmer sessions court.

The 78-year old virologist, who is critically ill, is serving life sentence in the Ajmer Central Jail.
