Just hours after Pakistani scientist Dr Khalil Chishty walked out of the Ajmer Jail after being granted bail by the Supreme Court, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered the immediate release of an Indian fisherman.

Dr Khalil Chishty, a Pakistani scientist who has spent many years at a prison in Ajmer is likely to walk out of jail today. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Monday. The Supreme Court order for Dr Chishty's bail has reached Ajmer, but will first have to be presented in the Ajmer sessions court.

The family of ailing Pakistani prisoner Dr Khalil Chishty has come to India all the way from Karachi to plead for his release. The 78-year old virologist, who is critically ill, is serving life sentence in the Ajmer Central Jail. His mercy plea has been given clearance by the Rajasthan Chief Minister, but he has still not been released.

The mercy plea of Mohammad Khalil Chishty, an 80-year-old Pakistani citizen serving life sentence in the Ajmer Central Jail, has been given clearance by the Rajasthan home department, sources in the department said on Friday.
