Khatauli Station Master Had Asked For Repair Of Track: Railway Official

The station master of Khatauli had at least twice requested the Delhi-based railway control room for a "block" to repair the tracks but was denied permission which delayed the repair work, a senior railway official claimed today.

At least 20 people have been killed and over 200 injured in Saturday's train tragedy in Uttar Pradesh' Muzaffarnagar. Among the dead was Alok Sarkar, a 48-year-old railway employee working with Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Office in Delhi.

Preliminary responses from various divisions of the railways today indicated that human error might be at the bottom of a train accident that claimed 20 lives in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. It now appears that some repair work on the tracks was in progress, of which the station master of Khatauli, the nearest station, claimed to have been unaware.
