The debt-laden carrier on Monday clarified that it has had to cancel a large number of flights because of non-payment of operational expenses after its bank accounts were frozen by tax authorities last week. Employee salaries would be paid and payments to recover grounded planes will be possible only after the bank accounts are unfrozen.

Kingfisher Airlines cancelled 30 flights today, thus further increasing inconveniencing passengers who already faced a similar situation over the weekend. In a statement released today, the cash-strapped airline said that it was the attachment of its bank accounts by the Income Tax department that had affected its operations.
