Days after being criticised by the Supreme Court, the Kerala government has decided to initiate criminal proceedings against the builders of four residential buildings marked for demolition in a posh lakeside location of Kochi.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, after an all-party meeting on Tuesday, has said that all possible efforts will be made to find legal ways to avoid the demolition of five buildings in a posh Kochi locality, involving over 350 flats.

Some 350 families are defying eviction notice at a posh residential area in Kochi, as the deadline to vacate their flats in five buildings ends today. The families say justice has been denied to them. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also called an all-party meeting in state capital Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.

Five buildings with over 350 flats in a posh locality in Kochi have become the centre of protests, after the Supreme Court ordered for their demolition by September 20.
