The 23-year-old migrant labourer convicted of rape and murder has been awarded a death sentence by a court in Kochi today. Ameer-ul-Islam was found guilty of raping and murdering Kerala law student Jisha in April last year. A migrant worker from Assam, he was convicted of murder, rape, wrongful confinement and trespassing.

Congress lawmaker Shashi Tharoor was questioned twice on Thursday on the alleged murder of his wife Sunanda Pushkar. The first session lasted over four-and-a-half-hours. Later in the evening, the former Union Minister was back again at the office of the Special Investigation Team in Vasant Kunj for another hour-and-a-half. He left around midnight.

Murder case in Italy against marines who shot Kerala fishermen

The Italian government says that two of its marines, currently in a Kerala jail for shooting two fishermen from Kochi, will be tried for murder in Italy. This is part of Italy's attempts to persuade India to release the marines who were arrested a few weeks ago. A court in Kerala today extended their custody till March 5.
