Kolkata Girl Trafficking

A girl from Bengal was trafficked to Delhi, rescued after five months and is now back home. She wants to go back to school and take the Class 10 board exams next year. But the school doesn't allow married girls to attend classes and they don't know she was trafficked - not married.

Baby smuggling seems to be on the rise in Bengal. On Monday, three infants were found in a biscuit box at a nursing home at Baduria, north of Kolkata. On Friday, police stumbled upon 10 infants, all girls, hidden away in an old age home at Thakurpukur in south Kolkata.

In a goodwill gesture, Indian border guards have handed back to Bangaldesh a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly being trafficked through a riverine area along the international frontier.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for the second time in less than a month, shared her story of a karate exponent from Bihar, whom she met during her trip to Kolkata in May. Ms Clinton told the audience in Washington about how confident and inspiring the girl was.
