The Central Bureau of Investigation or CBI has cracked the nine-month old rape and murder case of a teenaged girl in Kotkhai area of Shimla, arresting a 25-year old Himachal resident whose DNA sample matched with the genetic material found at the crime scene, officials said today.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday rapped the Central Bureau of Investigation over the tardy pace of probe into the sensational Kothkai rape-murder case, and summoned the CBI chief to appear before it on April 18.

A top officer of Himachal Pradesh police and seven other policemen were arrested on Tuesday for the custody death of a man accused of the rape and murder of a schoolgirl in July. The rape and murder in Kothkai, 55 km from capital Shimla, had led to widespread protests in a state that is widely considered safe for women.

A Nepalese labourer accused in the Kotkhai minor girl rape and murder case was killed allegedly by another accused in the Kotkhai Police Station late last night.
