A woman, whose husband has been arrested and charged for being involved in the kidnapping of a DMK functionary last month, filed a petition in the Madras High Court, seeking protection for him as she feared police would kill him in a fake encounter.

A member of a gang, charged with kidnapping a DMK functionary recently, was shot dead in an encounter with police near here while three others were arrested, police said.
