Kris Kristofferson, who became one of the most influential American singer-songwriters of his time with works such as "Me and Bobby McGee," as well as becoming a successful actor, died Saturday at the age of 88, according to a family statement.

It was subsequently remade in 1954 by director George Cukor, with Judy Garland and James Mason starring, and again in 1976, with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson headlining

"I have confirmed that the second verse is Warren Beatty," said Carly Simon. But she said that, in fact, the entire song was not about Mr Beatty and that other verses were about two other men, whom she did not name.
