Ladakh Trek

The body of a 39-year-old missing Italian trekker was found while an injured mountaineer was rescued in a separate operation by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in Ladakh, officials said on Sunday.

Sixty-two foreigners were among 1,325 trekkers who braved inhospitable conditions to trek the frozen Zanskar river at a height of 11,150 feet in the Union Territory of Ladakh, officials said.

A group of tourists who were stranded in the icy heights of Zanskar River in Ladakh were rescued by the Army on Tuesday. The Army said several search and rescue teams from the "Fire and Fury Corps" were rushed in helicopters to the Chaddar trek route in the Union Territory after getting a request for help from the administration.

Forty-one trekkers were rescued after water overflowed over ice on the Zanskar river in Ladakh's Leh, a senior official said. The official also announced a temporary suspension of Chadak Trek for the next two days due to bad weather.
