Ladies Special Suburban Train

Western Railway will run four ladies special suburban trains from Wednesday, taking the count of such "women's only" services to six and overall daily services on its network to 704 amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

The Western Railway celebrated the completion of 26 years of its first 'ladies special' train today.It was on May 5, 1992 that the Western Railway introduced the train service to ferry only women passengers between Churchgate and Borivali stations.

The world's first "ladies special" suburban train today competed 25 years and the Western Railway (WR), which started the service, termed it as a "milestone" in its long journey.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) has unleashed a special squad of women officers to tackle the problem of thefts and robberies in ladies' bogies on the suburban local trains. The squad, disguised as regular commuters, follow on-record criminals to catch them in the act, and hand them over to the police.
