Acting upon a police complaint, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today dropped her Sports Minister, KV Ramalingam, from the cabinet. Sources within the AIADMK say that the reason for the minister's ouster was a recent police complaint against him alleging land-grabbing attempts in his hometown Erode.

In its chargesheet, sent to Ms Nagpal on Sunday evening, the government alleges that, "In the month of Ramzan, when communal feelings are on a high, Durga Shakti Nagpal stands accused of getting the wall of a mosque demolished."

Another former DMK Minister, Vellakovil Swaminathan, has been arrested in Tamil Nadu this morning. Mr Swaminathan, who was the Highways Minister till last April in the government of M Karunanidhi, has been accused of land grabbing, criminal intimidation and holding kangaroo courts.

Hitting out at Jayalalithaa government for foisting "false land-grabbing cases" against his partymen, DMK chief M Karunanidhi said on Saturday that they are not afraid of jail and the Dravidian movement cannot be wiped out by such 'vendetta politics'.

The probe against Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinankaran, facing land-grabbing and graft charges, is likely to be further delayed.
