Las Vegas Wildfire

The main highway linking Southern California to Las Vegas reopened on Thursday as firefighters gained ground on a fast-moving wildfire that raged for a third day in mountains east of Los Angeles.

Even as crews in central Arizona made progress on Friday toward containing the deadliest US wildfire in 80 years, another blaze burned out of control in the mountains northwest of Las Vegas, threatening 400 homes.
