Italy's Lavazza said it would wrap its coffee shop business in India by selling the Barista chain, a move aimed at freeing the company to focus on its core coffee business.

Lavazza, which bought the cafe brand Barista in 2007, has sold the coffee shop chain to Carnation Hospitality Pvt Ltd, owned by packaging company Rollatainers Ltd, it said in a statement on Tuesday. The company did not disclose the deal value.

The wait for a cup of coffee for astronauts at the International Space Station (ISS) - 435 km above in the sky - will soon be over.

Undeterred by the entry of iconic US-based coffee chain Starbucks at competitive prices, entrenched players such as CCD, Barista and Costa Coffee are unlikely to go in for price war, and plan to continue with differentiated pricing strategy.

The move comes on the heels of the company planning to enter the e-commerce space.
