Cloudburst triggered by heavy rains caused flash floods which blocked the Srinagar-Leh highway in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district on Tuesday.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today issued directions to the Ladakh Affairs Department as well as district administration Leh to immediately carry out assessment of damages caused due to flash floods.

At least 70 people have been killed in floods in three states, Bengal, Odisha and Manipur, because of rain in the aftermath of cyclone Komen. There are reports that a flash flood has destroyed a village in Leh in Jammu and Kashmir.

Intensifying evacuation efforts from flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir, Air India and other carriers today flew over 500 passengers, including about 200 engineering students, to New Delhi from Srinagar and Leh and carried tonnes of relief materials to the state.
