Some 80 people at a village in Manipur have finally got power connection in their homes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had claimed that Leisang village, 100 kilometres from Manipur's capital Imphal, was the last village in the country to get electricity.

For the past few months, the villagers of Leisang watched little dots of light appear on their mountain at night and wondered when it would be their turn to finally switch from kerosene lamps to electric lightbulbs.

The mammoth task of taking electricity to every village of India has finally been achieved, the government said today. In a series of tweets, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement, naming Leisang, a village in central Manipur's Senapati district, as the last one to receive electricity on Saturday.
