Lokpal Selection Committee Meet

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge today wrote to the government for the seventh time, rejecting the offer to be a "Special Invitee" for the selection of the Lokpal, the anti-corruption ombudsman.

Rejecting advocate Prashant Bhushan's plea to make suggested names for Lokpal appointment public, the Supreme Court today, gave the centre 10 days time to inform the court about the selection committee's meeting dates on Lokpal appointment.

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday again declined to attend a meeting of the Lokpal Selection Committee, reiterating that "invitation as special invitee without the right of participation, recording of opinion and voting was an eyewash".

The Congress has boycotted the Lokpal Selection Committee meeting for a fifth time this year, asserting that it would continue to do so until the leader of the single largest opposition party is given the status of a full-fledged member in the panel.
