Indian's first citizen President Droupadi Murmu today created history by walking over a kilometer on the Grand Road to the 12th century Lord Jagannath Temple where she offered prayers for the well-being of the nation.

On the occasion of Shree Panchami, a devotee of Lord Jagannath has donated specially designed gold and silver ornaments, worth over Rs 2.33 crore, for the trinity of the 12th century shrine, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in Puri said.

The Biraja Temple, one of the major "shakti peeths" in Odisha, will reopen for devotees from December 29, while the residents of Puri town were allowed inside the Lord Jagannath Temple from Saturday, officials said.
