British police is treating the attack on Lt Gen (retd) K S Brar, the Operation Bluestar hero, as a case of an attempted murder, a spokesman said on Wednesday, adding the four assailants were of Asian origin.

The Indian High Commission has confirmed that four men assaulted General Brar, 78, outside his hotel and stabbed him with a knife. He is in critical condition in a local hospital after surgery. General Brar's wife was with him; she was pushed to the ground but was not injured.
