The Maharashtra government on Tuesday recognised 'Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha' as the state song.

The video of a Maharashtra policeman singing a popular Bollywood film song to persuade people to stay indoors amid rising coronavirus cases in the state has gone viral on social media.

Maharashtra politician Sharad Pawar, virtually the lone opposition leader campaigning for the October 21 state election, responded to the ruling BJP's digs on "touring at this age" with a famous song: "Abhi Toh Main Jawan Hoon (I am still young)."

Today Maharashtra will celebrate the 57 years of its formation. The state was formed on May 1, 1960. Each year Maharashtra Day is commemorated by a parade at Shivaji Park in Dadar where the Governor of Maharashtra gives a speech.
