Maharashtra is among the states that have witnessed maximum farmer suicides and much of it has been blamed on successive droughts, which many say can be prevented with better water management especially in areas like Marathwada that get less rainfall.

Over four thousand villages across drought-hit Maharashtra will participate in a game that will not only help them combat the severe water crisis facing the state but win one the villages a cash prize: Water Cup 2018.

Aamir Khan's video message at the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup Awards event in Pune on Sunday has brought the focus back on swine flu in Maharashtra, especially Mumbai, which managed to control the outbreak last year but hasn't been so successful this year.

"The response to Satyamev Jayate was so strong that we felt we will take one more step ahead and focus on one topic. We decided to work on water and Maharashtra. Water is important and Maharashtra is my birth place. I feel if we respect water, water will respect us so we all need to come together for this," said Aamir Khan
