Maoists Kill Trinamool Leader

Six months after her nephew and Trinamool MP publicly said it, a minister in West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's government has claimed she got Maoist leader Mallojula Koteswara Rao, better known as Kishenji, killed in 2011.

The CPI-M today demanded an explanation from the Mamata Banerjee government about the death of Kishenji after the chief minister's nephew and MP Abhishek Banerjee claimed that the government had killed the top Maoist leader in 2011.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee has triggered a controversy by claiming that the West Bengal government had "killed" Maoist leader Kishenji. The comment is at odds with the state government's stand that he had died in a gun battle in a joint operation by paramilitary forces.

A leader of the Trinamool Congress was shot dead by the Maoists in Midnapore. The killers left a poster at the spot, warning Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee and the West Bengal government against their attempt to recruit from the 17 Maoist-affected blocks of the state.
