The Supreme Court is all set to revive physical hearing of cases after a gap of almost a year. On March 8, a constitution bench will begin the hearing the final arguments against 16 per cent reservations for the Maratha community, as legislated by the Maharashtra assembly in November 2018, and as upheld by the Bombay High Court in June 2019.

The Bombay High Court has dismissed a petition filed by a group of students against the Maharashtra government's decision to implement reservation for the Maratha community in admissions to medical colleges from this year.

The Bombay High Court today upheld the Maharashtra government's decision to providereservation to the Maratha community in government jobs and educational institutions. However, the court cut down on the quantum of 16 per cent cited by the government on the grounds that it was not "justifiable".
