Kerala Water Resources Minister Mathew T Thomas, a nominee of the Janata Dal (Secular) in the CPI(M)-led LDF government, today submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The move comes after the JD(S), a key partner in the LDF, Friday decided to replace Thomas with Chittur lawmaker K Krishnankutty.

Throwing waste into water bodies will attract a jail term in Kerala. As per the new ordinance introduced by the state government, dumping "rubbish, filth or excreta in any water course" will attract a jail term of two years and a fine of upto Rs 3 lakh for violators. The Ordinance is pending the Governor's approval.
