With help from Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati again, the government has won a vote in the Rajya Sabha on allowing foreign supermarkets such as Wal-Mart to set up shop in India for the first time. The government had already won a vote on Foreign Direct Investment or FDI in multi-brand retail in the Lok Sabha two days earlier.
