With a section of them suspending their strike and another deciding to continue it, the striking unions of Municipal Corporation sanitation workers were divided over calling off their stir following their appearance in the High Court today.

Refusing to end their stir, the sanitation workers unions today said they will seek a "permanent solution" for their grievances from the court, even as municipal authorities claimed that the strike has been called off by other employees of the civic bodies.

The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a plea seeking its intervention in the ongoing stir of MCD employees in Delhi, saying that it cannot "take over" the functions of the Delhi High Court.
