In the absence of an ambulance or a vehicle, a 36-week pregnant woman of Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district was on Monday carried on a makeshift bamboo stretcher for five kilometres to a hospital where she delivered a healthy girl, an official said.

Meghalaya government today said it has constituted a high level inquiry committee to probe the moral policing controversy in which 12 women, including a pregnant woman, were detained and tortured for a week by members of a Non-Governmental Organisation headed by the Social Welfare department commissioner and secretary MHK Marak.
