Meitei Groups Banned

The security forces arrested six insurgents from two banned groups and a member of the Meitei armed group Arambai Tenggol in the last 24 hours in Manipur, the police said on Monday.

Manipur BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh appealed to the Home Ministry to ban the Kuki group Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) alleging the group has been taking financial aid to buy lethal drones.

The government on Monday banned nine Meitei extremist groups and their associate organisations, which mostly operate in Manipur, for their anti-national activities, and launching fatal attacks on security forces.

Cyclist Sharatchandra Singh, 17, and his teammates were among thousands stranded after the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) blocked the movement of Imphal-bound vehicles through Nagaland after violent anti-economic blockade protests by the Meitei community on December 18.
