Six former law enforcement officers from Rankin County, Mississippi, are up for sentencing after pleading guilty to abusing two Black men in racially motivated attacks

Six white Mississippi police officers tortured two innocent Black men using a sex toy, Tasers and a sword in an hours-long attack that ended with one man shot through the mouth and neck, the US Department of Justice said Thursday.

It began, as so many American killings do, as what police always describe as a "domestic," a man arguing about child custody with his estranged wife. It ended some seven hours later with eight dead, including a deputy sheriff and two teenage boys, in three different homes along the I-55 corridor between Jackson, Miss. and New Orleans.
