After walking with blistered feet for about 180 km in the blazing sun over the last five days, at least 35,000 farmers from Maharashtra's Nashik district have entered the capital city. They camped at the Thane-Mumbai border this morning before heading for the KJ Somaiya Ground in Sion.

At a little after 2 pm, politician Raj Thackeray pulled in at the Girgaum Chowpatty end of Marine Drive in South Mumbai in a Toyota Land Cruiser, and proceeded to do exactly what the police had declared off-limits - he launched what was intended as a five-kilometre march to Azad Maidan, the venue of his scheduled protest meeting.
