Veteran table tennis player Mouma Das was among seven sportspersons awarded the prestigious Padma Shri by the Government of India on the eve of the country's 72nd Republic Day.

Mouma Das was part of the gold medal winning India women's team at Gold Coast.

Apart from the singles gold, Batra has gold in the women's team event and silver in the women's doubles with Mouma Das.

Manika Batra won a first ever women's singles table tennis gold for India at the Commonwealth Games.

India's medal tally rose to 42, including 17 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze.

Indian paddlers never looked in the contention as Manika and Mouma failed to match the skill and tenacity of the their opponents.

Manika will face Singapore's World No.100 Yihan Zhou, whom the Indian beat 3-0 (11-7, 11-4, 11-7) in the women's team final.

Achanta Sharath Kamal, Soumyajit Ghosh, Mouma Das and Manika Batra all lost their table tennis first round individual matches at the 2016 Rio Olympics

India's table-tennis ace Achanta Sharath Kamal became the latest to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics at the Asian Olympic qualification event in Hong Kong.

Sanil Shetty, Soumyajit Ghosh, Achanta Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan won their respective matches while female players Mouma Das and Ankita suffered defeat in round of 32.

Soumyajit Ghosh, Devesh Karia, Ankita Das and Mouma Das will participate in the GAC Group World Tour Japan Open and Korean Open.

The seven member team comprises A Sharath Kamal, Soumyajit Ghosh G. Sathiyan, Sanil Shankar Shetty, Mouma Das, Manika Batra and K. Shamini.

Coming off from a splendid seven-game encounter against Yang Haeun, Ankita (268) did not pose much challenge to Chen Meng (8) as she was romped 6-11 1-11 5-11 8-11.

Earlier, the Indian women topped group G, accounting for Nepal 3-0, beat Iran 3-0 in round three to enter stage II of the Championships. There they defeated Thailand 3-0 to enter the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, they ran into the eventual winner China and lost 0-3 with Mouma Das exceptionally doing well by stretching Liu Shiwen to four games.
